Georgia Bulldog freshman Jamaal Jarrett has been at the receiving end of criticism after a video was leaked in which he allegedly made a racist comment toward an Asian individual.
The Asian man was in charge of announcing the Atlanta Falcons' first round pick during the 2023 NFL Draft. Jarrett was recording a live Instagram video while watching the draft.
"Jalen Carter, come on Asian. Ching chong," a man who could allegedly be Jarrett is heard saying.
Jarrett, who attended Grimsley High School in Greensboro, was selected to the All-American Bowl in his senior year.
In the Class of 2023, Jarrett was ranked as the 172nd best prospect nationwide and the 23rd best defensive lineman prospect.
In his senior season last year, he made 63 total tackles, including 18 tackles for loss, three quarterback hurries, an interception, and one sack.
Georgia has a reputation for producing some of the greatest defenders in the nation in recent years, which has resulted in numerous NFL Draft selections.
But before even setting foot on the Bulldogs' field, Jarrett is already drawing negative attention to himself as he begins his collegiate career.
"A Georgia Bulldogs football player made anti Asian comments on his Instagram Live when he saw an Asian man announcing a pick in the NFL Draft," Twitter account Asian Crime Report posted.
"His name is Jamaal Jarrett. This is unacceptable and disgusting.
"No one has really called this out but us. Anti Asian racism does not move the needles. Sad."
